Imaging
Computed Tomography (CT)
• Provides a picture of the brain.
• Because it does emit a small amount of radiation (is an X- ray) it should be avoided during pregnancy.
MRI
• Provides a more detailed picture of the brain.
• It does not emit radiation but instead creates a magnetic field.
• Because of this, it should be avoided in patients who have metal parts in their bodies (surgical clips, staples, artificial joints, shunts, vein filters, stimulators, etc) since it could cause severe damage!
