Comprehensive tuberous sclerosis clinic

The Northeast Regional Epilepsy Group (NEREG) Comprehensive Tuberous Sclerosis Clinic at Hackensack University Medical Center has been officially designated as a recognized Tuberous Sclerosis Complex (TSC) Clinic by the Tuberous Sclerosis Alliance(TSA). This designation recognizes NEREG as a referral center in the state of New Jersey and a participant in the Tuberous Sclerosis Complex Clinic Network.

In joining the network of referral centers committed to providing high-quality, multidisciplinary care to patients with Tuberous Sclerosis, NEREG's Hackensack epilepsy clinic is available to proactively address and treat the complex medical needs of the patient in a coordinated and evidence-based manner. Drs. Enrique Feoli, adult epileptologist and Eric Segal, pediatric epileptologist, are leading this novel program for NEREG.

Tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC) is a genetic disorder that causes tumors to form in many different organs, primarily in the brain, eyes, heart, kidney, skin and lungs. Often found in children, approximately 50,000 people have TSC in the United States and over 1 million worldwide. The tumors are not cancerous but can cause serious health complications and even death if not treated, especially if found in the kidneys or brain. At the current moment there is little known about the cause of TSC and no cure has been found.
